Update on the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessment program. The staff has been trained and the program will start with 1st and 2nd grade next school year. Specific teaching staff have been hired to work solely on this program. This program will give teachers a better tool to identify the students level of reading and comprehension and provide early intervention to those who need.

The school board sold the first part of the bond for measure O – The school district got a AA2 credit rating from Mooney (3rd highest) they went to a competitive bids and there were 8 bids and it sold to Morgan Stanley and got a lover interest rate than projected @ 3.56% and the assessed property values than projected meaning that they were able to get over a million more $ than projected. They are expecting the funds around June 1st. They have also put in for state matching funds for the state proposition that was passed at the same time. They plan to use the extra funds to put science labs in the middle schools. President reported
- Bill AB 841 was introduced into the California legislature regarding nutrition in schools. The original language in the bill would have effect our box top program, dine outs, which fundraiser we could do at school, and the reward certificates given out by the teacher. We spoke out against to the PTA and the PTA was able to work with the congress woman who had authored the bill and was able to get the language revised and protect these fundraisers.
- We have several open chair positions for next year. Please see PTA website for details.
